Getting married in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, can be a straightforward and relatively simple process, especially if you are a foreigner looking to marry a Georgian citizen or another foreigner. Here are the steps to get married in Tbilisi:

Legal Requirements:
Make sure you meet the legal requirements for marriage in Georgia. Generally, both parties must be at least 18 years old, and there are no specific nationality or residency requirements.
Required Documents:
Gather the necessary documents, which include:
– Your passports
– Any divorce decrees or death certificates if you or your spouse were previously married.

Marriage Application:
Everything for your application will be ready at your arrival, just have your passports with you. You will be guided for that.
Wedding Ceremony:
Once your application is approved, a wedding ceremony time has been scheduled. What we call ceremony, it can be just simple and fast moment or a classic celebrative time. So no panic just we will drive you belong your wishes.
Witnesses:
You will need two witnesses to attend the ceremony. They should have their identification documents with them. If you do not have, no worries, we provide for them.
Marriage Certificate:
After the ceremony, you will receive a marriage certificate. This certificate will be in Georgian language and of course, we will provide for the official translation and related seal (apostille or legalization by Ministry of Georgia) belong the country you will need to register.
Registration of Marriage:

Inform Your Home Country:
Depending on your home country’s requirements, you may need to inform your country’s embassy or consulate in Tbilisi about your marriage and they could require a visit after marriage to register the marriage in the Embassy.

As you can understand, its is not difficult to get married in Tbilisi but it is absolutely better to be guided from a professional service to not have the issues in transliteration, embassy informations, acts and bureaucracy could create troubles for your residency in a foreign country or in a place where you are going to leave.

Certificate of divorce or decree of divorce to get married again in Tbilisi

Unfortunately the divorce status could be a remarkable issue for your marriage in Tbilisi belong the country you did the divorce.

Now a day there are many restriction to accept the document if it does not have on header the clear title “certificate of divorce”.



Some Nation do not release the “Certificate of Divorce” but all the sentence of the court as “Decree of Divorce”. In our experience we can say Georgian authorities are reluctant to accept the “Decree of divorce” especially if children are involved in the procedure. The difference between Divorce decree and Divorce certificate is well explained at this link



How to proceed? There is a preliminary procedure to be done before to book any flight or to reserve any travel package to Georgia.

Your certificate of divorce need the Apostille or the Legalization seal from the Ministry of Interior/Justice/Foreign Affairs from where has been released.



So first of all check if you can do this step by your own as we do not manage act out the Georgia country. Than you should send the copy by email to us for the official translation in Georgian language and the local notary approval stamp. Once translated and notarized, We will submit your certificate of divorce to the local authority to be verify and accepted to proceed for the marriage.



After the approval you can plan your travel date. Approval/denied come in 3 days after the submission, so maximum 5-7 working days in normal time.

During pandemia everything is slower and many submission was not successful for different circumstancies. So we cannot guarantee the procedure will be approved.



Here some frequently asked questions:

Do you have a list of Certificate of divorce already verify and so plenty sure authority will accept without any issues?

Russia, Uzbekistan, Canada, Santo Domingo have been accepted if they have apostille or legalization stamp. Some discountinous problems with the UK decree of divorce. German decree of divorce has not been accepted lastly. By the way you can always send to us a copy of your certificate of divorce by email to be un-officially checked by us free of charge (cancel the privace point as name, ref number, so on). The certificate of divorce should be sent with the English or Russian language version if the original is not already in those languages.



What’up if my certificate of divorce will be not accepted?

The price of the submission service  just cover the cost for that procedure and it is not refundable. By the way If it will be accepted you already paid this service that is mandatory for your wedding application in Tbilisi.

This is not enough to register your wedding in UAE. The next step is to apply at the Embassy of UAE for an official seal (Uae legalization). Embassy of UAE has its headquarter in Tbilisi and you should ask to your provider to apply for legalization seal. We always do it. Only with the legalization seal of the UAE Embassy your certificate of marriage will be accepted in UAE and you will register the marriage successful.



We always propose this step in our service. It requires some days more after the release of the Georgian certificate of marriage translated and sealed by the Georgian Ministry of the Foreign Affairs. That is why, if you have a short stay in Tbilisi, we handle all the procedure and we will send you the whole paperwork by express mail.

How to divorce in Tbilisi 2024

Did you get married in Tbilisi and now the marriage does not work?

Are you facing challenges in your marriage that seem insurmountable? Sometimes, despite our best wishes for everlasting love, life takes its own course. If you’re considering divorce, here is some general information that might assist you.



Before proceeding with divorce, it’s essential to consider seeking legal counsel in your country for a Divorce Settlement Agreement. This agreement addresses various aspects such as roles, property division, affidavits, childcare, and any other critical issues that require mutual agreement before initiating the divorce process.

In Georgia, there are two primary options to obtain a divorce certificate:

Option A: Divorce Procedure in Georgia

This involves both parties (Groom and Bride) appearing before local authorities in Georgia to sign the divorce application.  This method requires a physical presence in Georgia.

Following the application, the divorce certificate, per Georgian law, is issued within 6 working days. Further steps involve international validation through official translation, apostille, or legalization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which typically takes an additional 2-4 working days.

If you wish to receive a quote for this full procedure, kindly complete the form below. You have the option to stay in Tbilisi for a minimum of 10 working days or have the divorce certificate delivered to your home via express courier, requiring only a 1-day stay in Tbilisi.

Option B: Power of Attorney Procedure
Alternatively, a “power of attorney” approach allows the divorce process to proceed without the need for both parties to be physically present in Georgia. This method helps save on travel expenses, including flights, accommodations, PCR tests, etc.
To initiate this process, both parties need to provide a power of attorney in English, each with an apostille valid for Georgia. This document grants full authority to act on behalf of both parties for legal requirements, document requests, and divorce proceedings.

Once we receive the power of attorney documents with the necessary seals, we’ll handle the process per Georgian law, including translation and notarization. After 6 working days, the divorce certificate is issued, followed by the necessary international paperwork.
